The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has scheduled several road closures and lane restrictions in the Hampton Roads district for the week of April 13-19, 2025. These closures will affect major interstates, ramps, bridges, and roadways. The closures are intended for construction and maintenance activities. However, VDOT has announced a suspension of most lane closures for Easter holiday travel from noon on Friday, April 18, until noon on Tuesday, April 22. Detailed information about statewide holiday travel can be found on the VDOT website.

Regarding bridges and tunnels, the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on I-64 will have single-lane closures heading westbound from April 14-17 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-664 will feature mobile lane closures southbound on April 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For updates on lane closures relating to the Elizabeth River Tunnels, interested parties are directed to check the specific tunnel schedules online.

Various projects on I-64 will see closures, including the Gap Segment C Widening in James City County, which involves off-ramp closures and a temporary traffic shift. The HREL Hampton 4C Project on I-64 will experience single-lane and full on-ramp closures, alongside temporary shifts between certain exits. Additionally, the HREL Norfolk 1A Project will have single-lane closures alongside various ramp closures.

The roadwork isn’t limited to I-64. For instance, I-264 will have full ramp closures in Virginia Beach and Portsmouth during overnight hours, and I-664 will experience similar closures in Chesapeake. Route 17 in Chesapeake and Route 60 in James City County will also have scheduled closures.

All closures are subject to change based on weather or other conditions. Motorists can obtain further information about other lane closures required for maintenance and construction through VDOT's traffic resources, including 511 services. Online maps and smartphone apps are available for real-time updates on traffic situations.

For continuous updates related to specific projects, like the HRBT Expansion Project and the Hampton Roads Express Lanes, detailed alerts and information are accessible through the corresponding project websites.
