The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will implement traffic restrictions on the Route 42 bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad in Alleghany County. This area is located about 1.5 miles north of Interstate 64 exit 29, specifically northwest of Morgan Drive in the Nicelytown area. The restrictions are due to planned bridge maintenance and paving work.
Starting Tuesday, April 22, the bridge will operate with a single travel lane. Northbound and southbound traffic will alternate using a temporary traffic signal, which will be in operation 24/7. During the maintenance period, wide load tractor-trailers will not be allowed on the bridge. This work is expected to continue for 12 to 15 weeks, depending on weather conditions.
