The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the ramp from Georgetown Pike to southbound I-495 on the night of April 8 as part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension project. The closure is scheduled between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. to allow for traffic shifts at the ramp.
Motorists traveling along east- and westbound Georgetown Pike to southbound I-495 will be required to follow a detour. The detour directs drivers to exit Georgetown Pike to southbound Balls Hill Road, turn left onto Lewinsville Road, and then take a right onto southbound Rt. 123/Dolley Madison Boulevard. From there, drivers can access the on-ramp to southbound I-495.
In case of bad weather or other circumstances, the work might be extended or postponed. "Drivers are urged to use caution and expect potential delays if traveling through this area."
Travelers are advised to check VA 511 for real-time traffic updates and additional information about traffic, work zones, and incidents. The VA 511 information can be accessed online at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, via a mobile app, or by calling 511 in Virginia.
