The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking public input on travel conditions along Route 17 in Gloucester County. This request for feedback is part of a transportation study conducted under the Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program, focusing on potential safety and operational improvements between Short Lane and Featherbed Lane.
The study aims to identify needs related to safety, congestion, and access management within the specified area. Partners in this project include Gloucester County, the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission, and the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization.
Public comments will help determine specific locations along Route 17 that may require review for potential enhancements. An online survey is available at https://publicinput.com/route17study and will remain open until April 7, 2025.
VDOT planners and engineers collaborate with local planners and stakeholders through the STARS program to address key safety and traffic congestion issues throughout Virginia. Draft recommendations for projects along Route 17 will be shared with the public in fall 2025, allowing further commentary before finalizing plans.
While the study will not set construction dates for improvements, it will outline proposed projects that localities can seek funding for. Comments can also be sent in writing or by email to Rachel Inman, VDOT Study Manager, at 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405 or fred.comments@vdot.virginia.gov. It is important to reference “Route 17 Study Gloucester” in communications.
For those preferring print copies of the survey, requests can be made via the contact information provided or by calling (540) 374-3373.
