The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced upcoming roadwork that may impact traffic in the Staunton District from March 17 to March 21, 2025. The district includes 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke, and Warren.

VDOT advises motorists to be cautious and prepared for changes in traffic patterns due to various construction activities. These include tree trimming on Interstate 64 in Alleghany County and bridge inspections along several routes.

In Alleghany County, Route 42 will have flagger-controlled traffic near Route 636 for bridge maintenance. Additionally, there will be shoulder closures on Route 696 for sign work. In Bath County, flagger-controlled traffic is expected for shoulder repairs on primary roads.

Rockbridge County will see lane closures on Interstate 64 for sensor installations and bridge inspections. On Interstate 81, alternating lane closures are scheduled for bridge inspections at mile markers 176 to 178.

In Augusta County, Interstate 64 will experience lane closures for rock and soil testing as well as bridge painting. Meanwhile, extensive work related to the I-81 widening project continues with various lane and ramp closures.

Rockingham County's Interstate 81 will undergo overnight right lane closures starting March 17 for shoulder strengthening as part of a truck-climbing lanes project. Primary roads such as Route 33 and Route 42 will also see significant activity including paving and sign work.

Page County plans shoulder closures on Route 211 near the Rappahannock County line and utility work on West Main Street in Luray. Shenandoah County will have overnight right lane closures on I-81 for bridge inspections at mile markers 274 to 276.

Frederick County's section of I-81 is set for pavement and guardrail work with daytime shoulder closures through April. Primary roads like Valley Avenue in Winchester will face single-lane closures due to repairs.

Clarke County's Route 7 westbound near Loudoun County line is scheduled for utility work with a right lane closure until March 28. In Warren County, both I-66 and I-81 are undergoing sign installations with associated shoulder closures.

VDOT encourages drivers to remain vigilant when traveling through these areas due to potential hazards from ongoing vegetation management operations across the district.

For further updates or inquiries about road conditions or projects within Virginia’s transportation network, VDOT offers resources via their website or customer service center available around the clock.
