Snow is expected to hit the Culpeper District starting Wednesday, with impacts on roadways anticipated by mid-morning. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has been proactive in preparing for the storm by applying brine to Interstate 64, Interstate 66, and major primary roads.
Residents are advised to exercise caution when encountering VDOT crews pre-treating roadways. The storm could bring one to three inches of snow across Piedmont Virginia, with heavier snowfall projected for the southern counties of the district. A shift northward in the storm's path could result in increased snow totals.
Extremely cold temperatures are predicted to accompany the storm through Friday morning, potentially freezing any moisture on roads and creating hazardous driving conditions. VDOT crews will operate in 12-hour shifts to clear snow and treat affected areas.
Motorists are urged to avoid travel during and immediately after snowfall to allow crews space for safe roadway treatment. Those who must travel should prepare an emergency car kit and stay informed about weather conditions along their route.
