Snowfall continues to affect travel conditions in Piedmont Virginia, with roads remaining snow-covered and slick throughout the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Culpeper District. Although the snowfall is tapering off, additional accumulation is expected overnight, possibly mixed with sleet and freezing rain.

VDOT has advised against traveling tonight. Crews are actively working across the district to maintain passability on high-priority roads, including interstate and primary highways, utilizing over 600 pieces of VDOT and contractor equipment.

Specialty crews are prepared to clear trees and limbs that may fall under the weight of snow and ice. In cases where utility lines are involved, VDOT coordinates with power companies to ensure safety before removing debris.

Essential personnel who must travel should allow extra time for their journey and check their route as conditions can change rapidly. Motorists are advised to watch for snowplows, avoid sudden maneuvers, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

Residents and motorists should plan ahead by checking road conditions, preparing an emergency car kit, following forecasts and announcements, and limiting travel based on conditions. Up-to-date information on road and traffic conditions can be accessed through 511.vdot.virginia.gov or the 511 Virginia mobile app.

Local updates for VDOT’s Culpeper District are available on X.com/VaDOTCulp and the Culpeper District Facebook page. More information about winter weather preparations can be found on VDOT’s winter weather page.
