The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is actively engaged in plowing and treating roads in southwest Virginia following the recent winter storm. Freezing rain continues to pose challenges, with conditions expected to persist today and into tomorrow. An ice storm warning from the National Weather Service is in effect for western Virginia until Thursday morning.

Despite efforts, interstates and primary roads, designated by numbers 1-599, still have slick spots and icy patches. Progress has been made on secondary roads and neighborhood streets, numbered 600 and above, but many plowed routes still contain icy areas.

Residents are advised that freezing rain remains in the forecast. For reporting downed trees or debris on roadways, VDOT’s 24-hour Customer Service Center can be reached through their website at my.vdot.virginia.gov or by calling 800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623).
