A new traffic signal is set to be activated on Route 257 (Friedens Church Road) in Rockingham County, near Mount Crawford. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the signal will begin operating in flash mode on Monday, April 21, and will be fully operational on Monday, April 28. This development affects the intersection of Route 257 and Route 919 (Parsons Street), situated approximately midway between Route 11 (Main Street/Valley Pike) and the Interstate 81 exit 240 interchange.

VDOT advises motorists to be cautious of slowed or stopped vehicles at the newly signalized intersection. Additional construction work at the intersection of Route 257 and the I-81 exit 240 ramps will result in lane and shoulder closures, leading to changes in traffic patterns. Detailed updates on these forthcoming changes will be provided by VDOT ahead of their implementation in summer 2025.

The work schedule is subject to weather conditions. For real-time traffic updates and traveler information, drivers can dial 511 or visit the VDOT website at https://511.vdot.virginia.gov/.

For inquiries or to report road hazards, the VDOT Customer Service Center can be reached at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623) or through its website at https://my.vdot.virginia.gov, with agents available 24/7.

VDOT's Staunton District is active on Facebook and X (Twitter) and also maintains a statewide presence on Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube. Additional information is available on VDOT’s main website at https://www.vdot.virginia.gov/.

The VDOT Staunton District provides services to several counties, including Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany, and Bath.
