Travelers using the Norris Bridge and Downing Bridge should prepare for overnight delays this week due to scheduled bridge washing activities.
The work will begin tonight, March 18, on Route 3 at the Norris Bridge, which links Lancaster and Middlesex counties. Tomorrow night, March 19, crews will shift their focus to the Downing Bridge on Route 360, connecting the Town of Tappahannock and Richmond County.
The bridge washing operations are set to take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night. During these hours, one lane of traffic will be halted for up to ten minutes at a time while crews clean sections of the bridge deck. The other lane will remain open, with crews alternating lanes as they progress.
Message boards have been installed at both approaches to inform travelers about the work zones.
