The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is preparing for a winter storm expected to hit Virginia starting Wednesday. The Culpeper District is anticipated to receive 2 to 4 inches of snow, with heavier snowfall likely in areas south and east of the district.

VDOT plans to apply brine on Tuesday to Interstate 64, Interstate 66, primary highways, and high-volume secondary roads. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe distance from brine trucks and escort vehicles during this process.

Residents should stay informed through local weather forecasts and prepare for the upcoming snowstorm, which may extend into Thursday. With temperatures expected to remain at or below freezing post-storm, snow could turn into ice on some roads and be slow to melt.

Before the winter weather arrives, VDOT advises residents and motorists to plan mid-week travel carefully, avoiding driving during the storm if possible. For those who must travel, an emergency car kit is recommended. It is also important to check conditions along the entire travel route as they may vary across different regions of the state.

Local updates regarding conditions in VDOT’s Culpeper District can be found on their X.com/VaDOTCulp page and the Culpeper District Facebook page. Additional information about winter weather preparations and response is available on VDOT’s winter weather page.
