Route 1 in Caroline County, Virginia, was temporarily closed due to a vehicle crash near Durrette Road. The incident occurred in the Ladysmith Village area, north of the intersection with Route 639 (Ladysmith Road).

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), both directions of Route 1 were affected by the closure. As a result, northbound traffic was rerouted onto Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) to Clark and York Boulevard, then to Meriwether Lewis Street, Durrette Road, and back onto Route 1. Southbound traffic followed a similar detour in reverse.

VDOT crews were dispatched to manage traffic control and implement the detour while wreckers made their way to clear the scene. Travelers were advised to seek alternate routes if possible to avoid delays.

Real-time updates on this incident were made available through VDOT's website at 511virginia.org.

By late evening, at approximately 11:16 p.m., authorities reported that Route 1 had been reopened at Durrette Road, with the scene cleared and the detour lifted.
