The Virginia Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Section has launched an official investigation into a nonprofit organization, AJP Educational Foundation, Inc., over allegations of charitable solicitation acts that violate state law.
"My office has launched an investigation into the nonprofit American Muslims for Palestine for fundraising without proper registration and for potentially violating Virginia's charitable solicitation laws, including benefitting or providing support to terrorist organizations,” said Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares.
The Attorney General’s office announced the investigation on Oct. 31 due to allegations that the nonprofit was soliciting contributions in Virginia without proper registration with the Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The potential violations also include suspicions that their funds were used to support organizations that are prohibited by state law.
There have been previous accusations against American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) suggesting they used raised funds to support terrorist organization Hamas. The Boim family from Chicago filed a lawsuit against AMP in 2022, one among several cases they've pursued against different nonprofits linked with terrorism following the tragic death of their son by Hamas terrorists during his study period in Israel.
According to Title 57, chapter 5, section 49 of Virginia state law, every charitable organization seeking contributions within the state is required to file a registration with the Commissioner. This registration must be regularly renewed. One critical requirement within this registration is a statement ensuring no funds have been or will knowingly be used either directly or indirectly to aid terrorists or their activities in any form including cash or kind.
American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia receives financial backing from AJP Educational Foundation - another nonprofit organisation as stated on their website.
