CAA Well-Represented As Major League Baseball Playoffs Get Underway
The Major League Baseball playoffs get underway on Friday afternoon and the CAA will be well-represented.
There are six players who competed at current CAA schools on the rosters of five different MLB playoff participants. Five of them are pitchers – Northeastern’s Aaron Civale (Cleveland Guardians), Elon’s George Kirby (Seattle Mariners), Delaware’s Ron Marinaccio (New York Yankees), Northeastern’s Adam Ottavino (New York Mets) and UNCW’s Evan Phillips (Los Angeles Dodgers). They are joined by former Towson outfielder Richie Palacios (Cleveland Guardians).
In addition, there are three former Old Dominion pitchers who competed in the CAA – Daniel Hudson (Los Angeles Dodgers), Justin Verlander (Houston Astros) and Ryan Yarborough (Tampa Bay Rays) – on playoff rosters.
Along with the players on the field, the St. Louis Cardinals are managed by former Charleston player Oli Marmol and former UNCW player Carl Willis is the pitching coach of the Cleveland Guardians.
