In March, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital opened the new Labor Delivery Recovery and Postpartum unit (LDRP). "Our patients and their families trust us to be a part of a very special time in their lives and we are thrilled to offer them an incredible experience," says Nicole Dockery, Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer.
This new mother, baby and family unit will transform the experience moms and families have when delivering their baby. The new space ensures that the birth and first days as a mother include quality care in a state-of-the-art unit that provides a safe, supportive environment for the new family. Mothers and their family members will stay in one spacious room, allowing them to settle in and get comfortable as they welcome their bundle of joy into the world. “We are all excited to welcome our patients into this new space as they welcome new additions to their families”, says Carla Sanford, Clinical Manager, LDRP Unit.
Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital is committed to providing quality care to the communities we serve. The investment in to this space ensures we can continue to provide quality care to our mothers, their babies and their families for years to come.
OBGYN, Dr. Joni Abbott, shares her thoughts about the new space, “I am thrilled to have our new unit open. It has been well received by our patients and their families. The rooms are larger and more comfortable, in addition, patient's do not have to change rooms after delivery, they stay in the same room for labor and postpartum. The new rooms, combined with visitation policies returning to pre-COVID has been very exciting for our department. It is so exciting to welcome families, especially siblings, back to meet their newest addition.”
In addition to the LDRP unit we have a new addition to our fantastic care team! Dr. Kwadwo Baryeh joined Dr. Joni Abbott and Maggie Bane, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner with Sentara Obstetrics and Gynecology on April 25th. “These LDRP’s and our comprehensive team supports the Sentara mission, “We Improve Health Every Day”. We look forward to providing quality care in a state-of-the-art space,”” said Brian Zwoyer, President of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.
