The Virginia House Republican Caucus recently used its Twitter account to re-post an op-ed from The Washington Post calling for reopening schools. The group added that “the Biden administration isn't following the science. They're advocating for schools that are open now to go back to virtual or hybrid.”

The authors of the op-ed, two associate professors, started their article by stating that “the new report on schools from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should be a wake-up call to parents everywhere: If they’re not back already, your kids are not going back to school full-time this year.”

Joseph G. Allen, associate professor and director of the Healthy Buildings program at Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Helen Jenkins, associate professor of biostatistics at Boston University School of Public Health have argued in their article that the CDC guidelines have some flaws, they also underlined that “the science is clear: kids — especially young children — can get and transmit COVID-19, but they are less likely to do so than adults.”

The professors also said that teachers have lower risks than other occupations.

Keeping hundreds of thousands of children out of school results in a loss in literacy progress, mental health crisis, billions of missed meals, and women dropping out of the workforce, the authors claimed.
