The Virginia House Republicans support reopening schools in light of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommendation that it is already safe to resume in-person classes.
The CDC has issued guidelines to safely reopen schools that stress five strategies to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The CDC guidelines require proper mask usage, individuals to maintain a minimum distance of six feet from others, frequent hand-washing, keeping facilities clean, contact-tracing, and quarantining anyone exposed to someone who has contracted the virus.
Despite the roadmap created by the CDC, there are still those who are skeptical about the resumption of in-person learning, including some teachers who have been asking for improved ventilation systems. This guidelines touched on the value of opening doors and windows, but did not explore ventilation systems. There are also parents who are frightened of sending their kids back to school no matter the safety measures.
“We’re trying to not get into the emotion of it but provide the scientific basis for how it can be done safely,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told the media, The Washington Post reported.
