Construction has started on shared-use paths along Post Forest Drive and Random Hills Road, as announced by the Virginia Department of Transportation. The project is designed to enhance safety, mobility, and connectivity for bicyclists and pedestrians to the I-66 network.

The project involves upgrading the sidewalk on the south side of Post Forest Drive from the Random Hills Road/Legato Road intersection to a 10-foot-wide path, connecting to an existing path near Black Ironwood Drive. Changes will include restriping Post Forest Drive without bike lanes, modifying the curb and gutter, and relocating a bus shelter closer to Black Ironwood Drive. East of Random Hills Road/Legato Road, Post Forest Drive will be adjusted to fit the new configuration.

Intersection improvements at Post Forest Drive and West Ox Road will include adding crosswalks on the north and west sides, upgrading pedestrian signals, and enhancing ADA curb ramps.

On Random Hills Road, the sidewalk on the east/south side is being widened to a 10-foot-wide path from Post Forest Drive to an existing path near the Monument Drive overpass. Improvements will also include a new crosswalk and enhanced ADA curb ramps at the Post Forest Drive and Random Hills Road/Legato Road intersection.

Construction will involve lane closures outside peak hours along Post Forest Drive, Random Hills Road/Legato Road, and West Ox Road. Sidewalk and path closures may occur, with detours signposted for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The $6.4 million project is funded by federal, state, and local sources and aims to be completed by mid-2026. The department advises caution in active work zones and to be attentive to new traffic patterns.
