The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has postponed the installation of temporary signals on the Route 42 bridge over the Buckingham Branch Railroad in Alleghany County. This adjustment impacts the bridge situated about 1.5 miles north of Interstate 64 exit 29, near Morgan Drive in the Nicelytown area.

The delay in the signal installation is due to contractor unavailability for the rest of April. A revised schedule will be provided once the signal work is ready to begin. Until then, the bridge will continue to accommodate two travel lanes for all traffic. Upon the installation and activation of the signals, traffic will be reduced to a single lane. This work schedule remains contingent upon weather conditions.

VDOT provides updated traffic alerts and traveler information through its 511 services, which can be accessed via phone or online. The VDOT Customer Service Center is available for assistance 24/7, offering support for reporting road hazards, inquiries related to transportation, and accessing information about Virginia's roads.

The VDOT Staunton District, which serves several counties including Alleghany, maintains a presence on social media platforms such as Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).

Updates and further information about VDOT services are available on their website.
