The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released a schedule of planned road closures in the Hampton Roads District for the week of March 2-8, 2025. The closures include full shutdowns and lane restrictions on major interstates, ramps, bridges, and tunnels.

At the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on I-64, there will be single-lane closures eastbound on March 4 and westbound on March 3, 5, and 6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Similarly, the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-664 will experience single-lane closures northbound from March 3-5 and southbound from March 3-7 during the same hours.

The James River Bridge on Route 17 is scheduled for a full weekend closure northbound starting at 9 p.m. on March 7 until 5 a.m. on March 10. Additional information can be found at VDOT's website dedicated to this closure.

For ongoing updates regarding the HRBT Expansion Project or the Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL), VDOT advises visiting their respective project websites for detailed traffic alerts.

In James City County, I-64 will have alternating single-lane closures westbound between Route 199/Lightfoot Road (exit 234) and Old Stage Road (exit 227) starting at various times throughout the week. Eastbound lanes will also see similar closures from March 2-8.

The HREL Hampton projects will affect several off-ramps and lanes with full ramp closures from I-64 east to Settlers Landing Road/Woodland Road (exit 267) from March 2-5 between late evening and early morning hours.

On I-64 in Norfolk, several long-term traffic shifts are in place due to ongoing projects affecting both directions of travel between Tidewater Drive and Patrol Road. Additionally, there are full ramp closures planned for Granby Street southbound near the I-564 overpass with detours provided.

Travelers using these routes are encouraged to plan ahead by checking real-time updates through VDOT’s platforms including their smartphone app or by dialing "511."
