The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced upcoming highway work that could impact traffic in the Staunton District from February 17 to 21, 2025. The district encompasses 11 counties including Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke, and Warren.

Motorists are advised to anticipate changes in traffic patterns and lane closures due to scheduled maintenance activities. "Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies," VDOT stated. Drivers should remain cautious of slow-moving tractors during mowing operations and be vigilant while traveling through work zones.

In Alleghany County on Interstate 64 westbound from mile marker 41 to 0, mobile right shoulder closures will occur for tree trimming operations between Tuesday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additionally, overnight right lane closure for cleanup operations will take place between mile markers 15 and 14 on Tuesday night.

Bath County will see flagger traffic control on Route 39 for rock and soil testing throughout the week. In Rockbridge County, utility work will cause flagger traffic control on several primary roads including Route 11 (Lee Highway) and Route 501 (Glasgow Highway).

In Augusta County along Interstate 81 between mile markers 220 and 222 northbound and southbound lanes will have overnight alternating lane closures for bridge inspections starting Monday night.

Rockingham County's Interstate 81 at Exit 240 will experience shoulder closures along ramps due to additional turn lane construction until July.

Page County's Route 340 will have shoulder closures for utility work beginning February 17 through February 28.

Shenandoah County will conduct overnight alternating lane closures on Interstate-81 near mile markers related to overpass bridge inspections.

Frederick County’s various road projects include ongoing survey crew activities along Interstate-81 northbound with no lane closures but continued shoulder restrictions through February.

Clarke County’s Route-761 remains closed as part of the Opequon Creek bridge replacement project with an expected completion date in November.

Warren County’s secondary roadwork involves a detour around Route-658 due to ongoing railway bridge construction anticipated finishing by December next year.

"Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes," noted VDOT reminding drivers about exercising caution within all designated work zones.
