Motorists in the Fredericksburg area are advised to exercise caution due to potential icy road conditions on Thursday morning. A mix of rain and sleet could lead to slippery surfaces, particularly on bridges, ramps, overpasses, and less-traveled roads.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has confirmed that all roads are currently clear but wet from rainfall. VDOT crews have been active overnight and continue to monitor Interstate 95 and state-maintained roads for any hazardous conditions. They are prepared to apply treatment materials as necessary to enhance traction and mitigate icing.

Travelers are encouraged to consult local weather updates and check road conditions via 511Virginia before embarking on their journeys. Conditions may vary significantly, especially in areas north and west of Fredericksburg.

VDOT advises travelers to wear seat belts, reduce speed, maintain a safe following distance between vehicles, allocate extra travel time, and avoid overtaking equipment applying road treatments.

For current road conditions, individuals can call 511 or visit https://511.vdot.virginia.gov. The free 511 Virginia mobile app is also available for download. Updates from the VDOT Fredericksburg District can be followed on social media platforms such as X and Facebook.

To report hazardous road conditions or seek further assistance, contact the VDOT Customer Service Center at any time by calling 800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623) or visiting my.vdot.virgina.gov.

It is recommended that drivers keep an emergency supply kit in their vehicles at all times for safety during winter weather conditions.
