The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released a traffic alert for the Staunton District, covering scheduled highway work that may impact traffic from January 27 to 31, 2025. The Staunton District includes counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.
Scheduled work is subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability. Motorists are advised to be cautious of slow-moving tractors during mowing operations and stay alert for changes in traffic patterns and lane closures in work zones.
In Alleghany County on Interstate 64 eastbound between mile markers 2 and 5, there will be a right shoulder closure for debris cleanup on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. In Bath County on various primary roads, flagger traffic control will manage shoulder repairs and pipe cleaning weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Rockbridge County will see multiple updates including survey operations causing possible shoulder closures on Interstate 81 northbound between mile markers 199 and 206 from Monday through Thursday.
Augusta County has several updates such as overnight mobile lane closures on Interstate 64 eastbound and westbound between mile markers 98 and 100 for fog light replacement from Tuesday through Thursday nights.
In Rockingham County at Exit 240 of Interstate 81 northbound and southbound ramps to Route 257 will have shoulder closures due to additional turn lanes construction until July. Various roadworks include tree trimming operations along Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) starting January 27 through February.
Page County's Route 211 (Lee Highway) eastbound will have right shoulder closures for sign work during weekdays from Monday through Friday.
Shenandoah County reports updated sign installations causing shoulder closures southbound between mile markers 299 and 294 on Interstate-81 until March.
Frederick County sees new overnight alternating lane closures for bridge inspections along Interstate-81 northbound and southbound at various locations including Routes overpass bridges at mile marker ranges like "307 to "311" Wednesday night.
Clarke County's Route "340" (Lord Fairfax Highway) will experience southbound alternating lane closures for utility work until Thursday.
Warren County notes an update with ongoing sign installations causing westbound shoulder closures on Interstate-66 near mile marker "1".
