GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY HELD FOR RIVERFRONT PARK
Danville Parks and Recreation—alongside City officials/staff, dignitaries, and supporters—broke ground on Riverfront Park this past Friday, March 17. The new $14 million park is situated in the heart of the River District at the corner of Main Street and Memorial Drive. Among many other amenities, a connection to the Riverwalk Trail, inclusive playground, spray park, and entertainment area are planned for the space. “We’re so excited to have broken ground on a project that so many people in the City have been involved with and invested in since 2017,” said Bill Sgrinia, director of Parks and Recreation. “Danville’s Riverfront Park will be a place anyone from any background and any age can make memories that will last a lifetime.” The groundbreaking ceremony included speeches by Mayor Alonzo Jones, City Manager Ken Larking, Senator Frank Ruff, and River District Association CEO Diana Schwartz. A picnic lunch was provided to all attendees, along with bags of Riverfront Park themed gifts. Support for Riverfront Park is still welcome.
