The Bon Secours Violence Response Team
The Bon Secours Violence Response Team and Hanover County Sheriff's Office are teaming up to raise awareness about human trafficking. Human trafficking happens when force, fraud or coercion is used to control another person for the purpose of engaging in forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation. Human traffickers deprive victims of their freedom and dignity.
“It’s important to understand that human trafficking does not discriminate. It can affect people of any gender, age, race, ethnicity or nationality. In addition, it can impact people living in poverty and even those in financially secure situations,” says Bonnie Price, administrative director for community health advocacy for Bon Secours Richmond. “The Bon Secours Violence Response Team regularly sees and treats victims of human trafficking – and sometimes those victims don’t even recognize that they are being trafficked. We are proud to partner with Hanover County and other law enforcement agencies to ensure these victims have access to the resources they need.”
According to the U.S. Department of State, an estimated 27.6 million victims around the world are being trafficked. However, because human trafficking often occurs in silence, many of them are hidden right in front of us.
