‘Spirit of the Holidays’ at The Prizery

‘Spirit of the Holidays’ at The Prizery

Pianist Robin Spielberg promises a lot more than a piano concert at her “Spirit of the Holidays” performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday Dec. 1 at The Prizery in South Boston. The Clays Mill Elementary School choir, led by Tim Duncan, will sing along with her as will the audience on some favorite Christmas tunes. “Many people in a community don’t get to experience children singing, other than their parents,” she says. “It gives people a chance to see what is going on in the local scene, in the schools.” The audience will see a bouncing ball on screen over the lyrics to sing Christmas favorites in a family-oriented show. Video in the background will show filmed scenes from various seasons of the year, as Spielberg showcases music, including original compositions, from her 22 albums. Spielberg is performing in the Steinway series, featuring the Prizery piano purchased primarily by local contributions. “Steinways are some of the last hand-crafted items in the U.S.,” she says. “Each has a personality of its own, unlike factory-made pianos.” Based now in New Freedom, PA., Spielberg gained prominence as a pianist and composer with her solos in “Heal of the Hand” in 1993, which sold over 160,000 albums. Her music now has over a half billion streams across various streaming platforms. The importance of music therapy has been a theme in her career. In 2019 her album “On the Edge of a Dream: Piano Solos for Dreaming,” debuted at No. 6 on the New Age Billboard chart. She has toured widely in the U.S. and abroad, and in 2019 the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism invited her to perform and hold master classes at major venues. Tickets, ranging from $20 to $36, can be purchased  at www.prizery.com, or by calling 434-572-8339. The holiday concert is sponsored by the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
