#CAAHoops MBB Recap - Jan. 20 - Sims' Buzzer-Beater Keeps UNCW Unbeaten in CAA

Colonial Athletic Association issued the following announcement on Jan. 20

A Jaylen Sims three-pointer beat the horn to keep UNCW undefeated in Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball action, while Towson won its fifth-straight game, and Delaware and Drexel earned home victories Thursday night.

Thursday's results set up a Saturday battle for first place between UNCW (4-0) and Towson (5-1) on a night in which home teams improved to 16-10 in conference play.

UNCW 71, James Madison 70 | Box Score

Jaylen Sims hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to complete a comeback from 13 points down and keep UNCW undefeated in CAA play. Five Seahawks were in double figures in UNCW’s seventh-straight win with 16 each from Jaylen Fornes and Trazarien White. UNCW led 31-30 at the break but JMU shot 73.7% in the second half to surge ahead before the Seahawks chipped away. Vado Morse led all scorers with 25 points and Takal Molson added a double-double for the Dukes.

Towson 74, Charleston 67 | Box Score

Towson built a 10-point lead early in the second half and held off a scrappy Charleston squad that outrebounded the Tigers 48-43 with 30 boards in the first half. Nicolas Timberlake led Towson with 17 points and Juwan Gray added 15 with a handful of key three-pointers to create distance when the Cougars pulled closer. John Meeks led Charleston with 16 points in the defeat.

Delaware 84, William & Mary 74 | Box Score

William & Mary cut the Delaware lead to four before the Blue Hens pulled away with an 11-0 run early in the second half and secured a 10-point win in their long-awaited first home game of CAA play. Five Blue Hens were in double figures, led by 19 from Ebby Asamoah and 18 from Kevin Anderson along with six assists. Ben Wight scored a career-high 21 to go along with 10 rebounds for the Tribe in the defeat.

Drexel 77, Elon 49 | Box Score

Drexel built a 15-point first half lead and was 12-of-20 from three in a convincing CAA win in Philadelphia. Amari Williams and Camren Wynter scored 17 points each to lead Drexel, which committed just nine turnovers in the contest and had 31 points off turnovers to Elon’s two. Michael Graham put together a stellar performance for the Phoenix in defeat with 14 points and 17 rebounds.
