Motorists in McLean, Virginia, should prepare for overnight closures and detours on the southbound I-495 through April 25, according to recent announcements. These interruptions affect the exit ramp from the southbound I-495 collector road to Georgetown Pike (Exit 44), as well as the on-ramp from northwest George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) to southbound I-495. The closures are scheduled from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The closures beginning tonight, April 21, and continuing through April 23, are essential for the installation of beams for future ramps. Further closures may occur on April 24 and, if necessary, April 25, to implement a traffic shift on the southbound I-495 collector road onto a newly realigned ramp.

Detours for motorists on northwest GWMP to southbound I-495 require taking the exit to northbound I-495 toward Maryland, continuing to Exit 41 for Clara Barton Parkway, then following specific turns to merge with eastbound Clara Barton Parkway, and finally exiting onto southbound I-495 toward Virginia.

Motorists traveling on the southbound I-495 collector road to Georgetown Pike should continue south on I-495’s general-purpose lanes to Exit 46B for Route 123 North, take the exit for northbound I-495 general-purpose lanes, and continue north to Exit 44 for Georgetown Pike.

Work schedules depend on weather, and modifications might apply. Drivers should proceed cautiously and anticipate delays. Traffic information is accessible via VA 511 online, through the mobile app, or by phone. Construction updates and lane closure details can be found at 495next.vdot.virginia.gov.
