As of January 23, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) have extended the closure on Penniman Road from Alexander Lee Parkway to Cheeseman Road. This is part of the ongoing Penniman Road Roadway Improvement Project in York County. The full closure now stretches from William Carter Road to Cheeseman Road and is expected to last for approximately two weeks. Additionally, Cheeseman Road will be closed between Penniman Road and Spiers Lane during this period.
Motorists traveling on Cheeseman Road will be detoured via Spiers Lane and Starkey Place to reach Penniman Road.
Upon completion of these temporary closures, both Cheeseman Road and Penniman Road between Alexander Lee Parkway and William Carter Road will reopen. The previous long-term closure on Penniman Road will then revert to its earlier limits between William Carter Road and Alexander Lee Parkway. This closure is projected to continue through spring 2025.
For the long-term closure on Penniman Road, signed detours are available, directing motorists to use Government Road, Route 199 (Humelsine Parkway), and Water Country Parkway for access to Alexander Lee Parkway and Penniman Road.
Access to all private properties will remain available.
