At least 25 domestic terrorism cases have been opened in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol Building riot.
U.S Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy confirmed this with Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.), a member of the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, during a phone conversation this week.
“The Department of Defense was aware of further possible threats posed by would-be terrorists” in the days up to and including the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on Jan. 20,” according to the notes from Crow’s call with McCarthy. The DOD is “working with local and federal law enforcement to coordinate security preparations,” the notes state.
The recovered explosive devices, zip ties, Molotov cocktails, and long guns were indications that a more disastrous incident had been prevented.
Concerns have been raised on the alleged participation of military members who are either active or enlisted as reserved.
Immediate investigation and court-martials on those involved have been requested.
Both McCarthy and Crow agreed to take further precautionary measures including a CID review of troops to be deployed on Inauguration Day to ensure that they are not sympathetic to the domestic terrorists.
