A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Piedmont region, with snow expected to begin around midnight. Forecasts predict that most of the area will receive between 1 and 3 inches of snow, with heavier amounts likely in Charlottesville and Louisa County. The northern part of the Culpeper district is expected to see lighter snowfall.
In preparation for the storm, crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are applying brine to interstates and primary roads to help prevent snow and ice from sticking to pavement. Starting at midnight, VDOT will move into continuous operations, deploying all available staff for plowing, treating roads, and addressing changing weather conditions.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their morning commute, reduce speed on snowy or icy roads, increase following distance, use caution on bridges and mountain passes—which tend to freeze first—and give space to VDOT equipment. Travelers are encouraged to check real-time road conditions before heading out by visiting 511Virginia, using the free VDOT 511 mobile app, or calling 511 within Virginia.
Local updates specific to VDOT’s Culpeper District can be found on their X account and Facebook group page.
