Williamsburg is preparing a variety of events and activities for Memorial Day weekend, according to an April 22 announcement. The city aims to offer both tributes to fallen service members and opportunities for leisure as summer begins.
The weekend holds significance as it marks the unofficial start of summer while also providing time for reflection on the sacrifices made by U.S. service members. Visitors are invited to participate in commemorative ceremonies, explore historical sites, enjoy local attractions, and sample regional cuisine.
On Monday, May 25, Colonial Williamsburg will host a Memorial Day Commemoration on Palace Green with a traditional wreath-laying ceremony honoring those who served the nation. Yorktown Battlefield will provide free admission in recognition of the holiday, allowing guests to visit historic grounds managed by the National Park Service.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can use the Williamsburg 250 Passport mobile pass for discounts at attractions across Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. Busch Gardens will continue its Food & Wine Festival through June 21 with international dishes and entertainment options. Other notable destinations include Historic Jamestowne’s archaeological sites and Jamestown Settlement’s exhibits.
Recreational opportunities range from water parks like Water Country USA to hiking trails and cycling routes in nearby parks. Golfers have access to more than a dozen courses known for their scenic views. Dining choices feature award-winning restaurants such as Fat Canary and Casa Pearl as well as historic taverns like Christiana Campbell’s Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg.
Lodging options cater to different preferences—from luxury hotels like Williamsburg Inn to bed-and-breakfasts such as Cedars of Williamsburg or family-friendly resorts including Great Wolf Lodge. The city encourages visitors to find accommodations that suit their holiday plans while enjoying all that the Historic Triangle has to offer.
