William & Mary women’s tennis lost to top-seeded Elon, 4–3, in the Coastal Athletic Association Championship match at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center on Apr. 19.

The result ended William & Mary’s season and gave Elon the conference title after a closely contested match that came down to the final singles court.

The deciding point was secured by Elon’s Lisa Kranec, who defeated Rebeka Svabikova in a third-set tiebreak at No. 5 singles. After splitting the first two sets, Kranec won the tiebreaker 7–1 to clinch victory for her team.

William & Mary finished its season with a record of 14–7 overall and went 6–1 in conference play. The team reached its eleventh consecutive CAA Championship match after defeating No. 3 seed Charleston, 4–0, in Saturday’s semifinal round.

Elon took an early lead by winning doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 3 positions; the No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished. In singles play, Mira Kernagis earned a win for William & Mary at No. 4 with a score of 6–1, 6–0, while Alexia Gonzalez-Galino added another point with her victory at No. 6 (6–0, 6–2). Francesca Davis also contributed with a three-set win at No.2 (6–3, 4–6, 6–4), leveling the overall score before Elon’s wins at other positions set up the final showdown.

This marked the second time this season that Elon edged out William & Mary by a narrow margin of four points to three.
