William & Mary women’s golf in fifth after first day of CAA Championship

William & Mary women’s golf team finished the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships in fifth place, according to an April 17 update. The tournament is being held at The Reserve Club at St. James.

The team’s score of 316 (+28) marks its best opening round at the league championship since 2016. UNCW leads the competition with a score of 292 (+4), followed by Charleston and Campbell with scores of 294 (+6) and 295 (+7), respectively.

Sophomore Jennifer Osborne and freshman Reagan Garnsey led William & Mary, each shooting a round of 75 (+3) to tie for twelfth place individually. Osborne recorded a birdie on each side along with eleven pars, while Garnsey had three birdies on her second nine holes after starting with eight pars on her opening nine.

Juniors Samantha Skinner and Katie Suk both shot rounds of 83 (+11). Suk made consecutive birdies on the par-3 sixteenth and par-5 seventeenth holes, while Skinner birdied the par-3 thirteenth hole during her round. Junior Faith Garcia rounded out William & Mary’s lineup in thirty-fourth place with an eighty-four (+12).

For Saturday’s second round, William & Mary will be paired with Elon, currently fourth at +20 (308), and Towson, sixth at +33 (321). Tee times are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., with live scoring available online.
