William & Mary head women’s golf coach Jonathan Howard announced on May 7 the signing of Abigail Avallone from Bethesda, Maryland, to the Tribe program.

The addition of Avallone is part of the team’s efforts to strengthen its roster for upcoming seasons. She joins Srihitha Mandava and Tess Morris as members of the incoming freshman class for fall 2026.

“We are excited for the opportunity to add a talented, charismatic young lady like Abigail to our program,” Howard said. “Her junior resume speaks volumes and though her demeanor is calm, she has a tenacious drive that will continue to elevate her game and our program.”

Avallone had a successful high school career at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, earning three Washington Post First Team All-Met selections and winning three consecutive Washington Metro Private School Girls’ individual and team State Championships. In 2023, she won the 46th Maryland Girls’ Junior Amateur with a score of one-under par over two rounds and also earned medalist honors at the 102nd Maryland Women’s Amateur by shooting a record seven-under par in stroke play.

She continued her strong performances with runner-up and third-place finishes at subsequent Maryland Girls’ Junior Amateurs in 2025 and 2024. Avallone was also selected as a member of Maryland’s Poindexter Cup team during her prep career. Academically, she received top honors each year at Stone Ridge and served as leader of the Cancer Awareness Research and Education Club.

In its first season under Howard’s leadership, William & Mary’s women’s golf team recorded an average score that ranks among the best in program history and finished fifth at this year’s Colonial Athletic Association Championships.
