William & Mary announced on May 1 that its track and field team will divide into two groups for the final weekend of the regular season. The distance squad is set to participate in the Hill City Twilight meet on Saturday, May 2, in Lynchburg, Virginia, while the remainder of the team will compete at the Duke Twilight on Sunday, May 3, in Durham, North Carolina.
The upcoming meets offer William & Mary athletes a last chance to improve their marks before championship season. At the Hill City Twilight, distance runners will compete in events such as the 800 meters, 1500 meters, 5,000 meters and 3,000 meter steeplechase. The event schedule runs from late afternoon through evening.
On Sunday at Morris Williams Stadium during the Duke Twilight meet, other members of William & Mary’s team will take part in a full slate of sprints, hurdles, jumps and throws. Field events begin with women’s hammer throw followed by discus throw and other disciplines throughout the day. Track races start with relays before moving into individual sprint and hurdle competitions.
The announcement also highlighted recent achievements by William & Mary athletes. Uriah Harris was named Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for a third time this outdoor season while Hayes Trapp earned his first Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honor this spring. Harris leads conference rankings in both shot put (17.89m) and discus (55.83m), holding school freshman records for each event.
Trapp currently tops CAA standings in the men’s 10,000 meters after running a season-best time of 29:12.09 at Raleigh Relays; he recently finished third at Penn Relays’ College Men’s Championship race over that distance. Additional performances include Amelia Bawcombe breaking her own freshman record in hammer throw (59.38m), Kalli Knott achieving one of program’s top pole vault marks (4.05m), Kennedy Reynolds recording one of school’s fastest-ever times in women’s 400 meter hurdles (1:00.73), and a seventh-fastest all-time performance by Caleb Wilcox, Matthew Twyman, Amberson Bauer and Jonathan Kumer in men’s 4×800 relay.
