William & Mary track and field athletes earn top finishes at Hill City Twilight

William & Mary track and field athletes recorded several strong performances at the Hill City Twilight meet, according to a May 2 announcement. The event featured victories, podium finishes, and a new entry in the program’s all-time top-10 list.

The men’s distance squad was led by senior Jonathan Kumer, who finished fourth in the men’s 800m Invite with a personal-best time of 1:47.52. This result ranks as the sixth-fastest performance in William & Mary history.

Kelly Ann Sutterfield won the women’s 1500m with a time of 4:30.75. Teammates Abby Lane and Veronica Znajda also finished among the top four in that race, placing third and fourth respectively. In addition, Nolan Yeagle secured victory for William & Mary in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase Invite with a time of 9:22.31.

The Tribe placed three runners inside the top six of the men’s 1500m: Amberson Bauer took second place (3:51.56), Luke Ellwood finished fourth (3:54.40), and Quinn Green came in sixth (3:55.56). On the women’s side, Anne McSweeney earned third place in the women’s 800m (2:18.77), while Allison McDonald finished second in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase Invite (10:56.62). Madilyn Lewis added to these results by taking third place in the women’s 400m with a time of 57.49.

According to William & Mary officials, “William & Mary returns to action on Sunday, May 3, when the remainder of the Tribe competes at the Duke Twilight in Durham, N.C.”
