William & Mary head coach Erin Dickerson Davis announced on April 29 the addition of guard Denver Carlton to the women’s basketball team’s 2026-27 freshman class.

Carlton, who joins from St. James Academy in Ashburn, Virginia, is recognized as one of the region’s top prospects and has demonstrated versatility throughout her high school career. The announcement is part of William & Mary’s ongoing effort to strengthen its program with local talent.

“We are so excited to announce the signing of Denver Carlton to our Tribe,” Davis said. “In Denver, we are getting an athletic, scoring combo wing. She plays extraordinarily hard and knows what it takes to win. More than that, we are gaining a driven student-athlete, grounded in her faith and committed to leaving a lasting legacy at William & Mary both on and off the court. Our recruiting strategy has always been to make sure we root ourselves in our regional area, proving you don’t have to go far from home to be a part of something truly special.”

Carlton was a four-year letterwinner at St. James Academy and averaged 24 points per game as a junior while contributing across multiple statistical categories including rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. She also competed for three seasons with Team Durant on the AAU circuit where she helped lead their Nike EYBL 15U team to a championship title and later led their 16U squad in scoring.

Off the court, Carlton plans to major in pre-med at William & Mary and earned Honor Roll recognition during her high school years.

The addition of Carlton reflects William & Mary’s commitment to recruiting talented student-athletes from its regional area who can contribute both athletically and academically.
