The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a series of scheduled lane and road closures as part of ongoing maintenance and construction throughout the Hampton Roads area for the week of March 30 to April 5, 2025. This traffic update details closures affecting major interstates, ramps, and bridges.

At the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel on I-64, there will be single-lane closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Westbound closures will occur on March 31 and April 2, while eastbound will see closures on April 1 and April 3.

The Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on I-664 will have mobile, alternating single-lane closures northbound from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 1. The James River Bridge on Route 17 will experience southbound single-lane closures from March 31 to April 4 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., as well as mobile single-lane closures on March 31 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Roadworks related to the HRBT Expansion Project can be monitored via the project’s dedicated website. Additionally, VDOT provides updates on the Hampton Roads Express Lanes and the I-64 Gap Segment C Widening among other projects.

For comprehensive monitoring, VDOT suggests visiting 511.vdot.virginia.gov, using their smartphone app, or calling the 511 information line for updates on traffic conditions throughout the region.

“Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors,” according to officials.

Further information on scheduled traffic changes affecting other key routes in the area, including I-64 in Norfolk and Chesapeake, I-564, and I-264 in Virginia Beach is also available.

The public is encouraged to stay informed by checking the VDOT websites for detailed project updates and potential impacts on daily commutes.
