Weather permitting, Walker Road in Great Falls will be closed to through traffic between Colvin Run Road and Georgetown Pike for two weeks. This closure is part of the bridge replacement project over Piney Run, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The closure will start at 10 p.m. on Friday, July 18, and continue until 9 p.m. on Friday, August 1. The closure aims to facilitate Accelerated Bridge Construction work on the Walker Road bridge over Piney Run.
Residents needing access to properties along Walker Road will still have entry but cannot cross the bridge over Piney Run, located between Park Royal Drive and Walker Mill Road.
Detours for through traffic will be set up via Colvin Run Road, Route 7 (Leesburg Pike), Springvale Road, and Georgetown Pike back to Walker Road.
The bridge project is expected to be completed by late 2025.
