Weather permitting, Walker Road in Great Falls will be closed to through traffic over two weekends due to work on the Walker Road over Piney Run bridge replacement project. The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that the closures will occur between Colvin Run Road and Georgetown Pike.
The first closure is scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday, May 30, until 5 a.m. Monday, June 2. The second closure will take place from 9 p.m. Friday, June 6, until 5 a.m. Sunday, June 8.
Residents needing access to properties along Walker Road will be able to reach them but cannot cross the bridge over Piney Run located between Park Royal Drive and Walker Mill Road.
Through traffic will be detoured via Colvin Run Road, Route 7 (Leesburg Pike), Springvale Road, and Georgetown Pike back to Walker Road.
The bridge project is expected to be completed by late 2025.
