The VMI women’s track and field team competed on April 25 at the John Weaver Invitational hosted by Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. The event took place under rainy conditions, with athletes achieving several notable performances.

The meet was significant as it served as one of the final competitions before the upcoming Southern Conference Outdoor Championships. Team members posted strong results across various events, demonstrating their readiness for future challenges.

Sophomore Naturale Faison placed second in the 100-meter preliminaries with a time of 11.78 seconds, while SeMore Green finished sixth at 12.08 seconds. The 4×100 relay team—composed of Miracle Eric, Green, JeNiya White, and Faison—secured fourth place overall with a time of 46.59 seconds.

In field events, Ruth Dickersheid finished fifth in shot put with a distance of 11.73 meters. Diamond Baker followed in seventh place (11.52 meters), and Heaven Hall achieved a personal best to finish eleventh (10.94 meters). Freshman Ava Buckner came ninth in the long jump with a mark of 4.76 meters.

On the track, Hayden Talbott took ninth place in the 800-meter run (2:31.44), while freshman Jazmyn Mackin placed fifteenth (2:36.90). Junior Evelyn Anderson ran the 400 meters in 1:00.16 to finish eleventh overall.

VMI Director of Track and Field Zack Scott said, “Both the men and women showed resilience on Day 2, pushing through heavy rain that moved in midway and continuing to compete with purpose.”

Looking ahead, VMI’s women’s track and field athletes will have two weeks to prepare for the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships scheduled for May 11-12 at Western Carolina University.
