The Virginia Military Institute women’s track and field team began competition at the John Weaver Invitational in Boone, North Carolina, on April 24, showing strong results in several events.

The meet is an early opportunity for the Keydets to test their progress this season against regional competitors. Several athletes set personal records and earned top finishes during the first day of action.

Junior Morgan Fraser achieved the highest finish for VMI by winning the high jump event with a mark of 1.60 meters. Ruth Dickersheid secured third place in the hammer throw, setting a new personal record at 40.45 meters, while Jada James finished eighth with her own best mark of 32.10 meters.

Dickersheid also took third place in the javelin throw with another personal record distance of 29.20 meters. Freshman Ava Buckner placed eighth overall in that event, reaching a distance of 22.60 meters.

Competition at the John Weaver Invitational continues Saturday as VMI athletes look to build on their opening-day success.
