The VMI lacrosse team lost to Robert Morris University, 12-5, in the Northeast Conference Tournament semifinal on April 30. The game was held at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.

This match marked the Keydets’ first appearance in the conference tournament. The team finished its season with a record of seven wins and seven losses. Robert Morris will move on to play for its second consecutive NEC Tournament title against either LIU or Cleveland State.

During the game, both teams traded goals early in the first period. Dayton Bagwell scored for VMI to tie it at one before Beau Durkin added two more goals for the Keydets. Despite these efforts, Robert Morris led 4-2 after the first quarter and extended their lead throughout the game.

VMI’s defense faced pressure as Robert Morris increased their advantage in the second half by holding VMI scoreless until late in the fourth period. Freshman Ethan Ostrowski scored VMI’s final goal, but it was not enough to close the gap.

Key statistics from the game include VMI outshooting Robert Morris 41-38 and goalie Nate Fechter setting an NEC Tournament record with 18 saves. Adam Norris also made 13 saves for VMI. However, Robert Morris won most faceoffs and groundballs while both teams struggled on extra-man opportunities.
