VMI Baseball lost to UNC Greensboro on May 3 in the final game of their series at UNCG Baseball Stadium. The Keydets recorded 11 hits but were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities and committed fielding errors, resulting in a 7-4 defeat against the Spartans.

The outcome is significant for VMI as they continue Southern Conference play, now holding a record of 27-20 overall and 3-12 in conference games. Despite strong individual performances, missed chances and defensive mistakes contributed to the loss.

Bradley Garner led VMI’s offense by going three-for-five with two doubles, a triple, and scoring twice. Cole Raile extended his season-best hitting streak to twelve games after finishing two-for-three with three runs batted in. Gabe Jenkins added two hits and an RBI for the Keydets, while Clark Driscoll posted three strikeouts. Ayden Schnarrs was hit by a pitch for the twenty-second time this season, placing him third all-time for single-season hit-by-pitches at VMI.

Scoring began in the second inning when UNC Greensboro took advantage of VMI’s fielding errors to take a two-run lead. The Spartans added another run in the third before Raile put VMI on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Jenkins helped narrow the gap further with an RBI single in the sixth inning, but UNCG quickly responded each time VMI threatened their lead—including adding three unearned runs after another rally from Raile’s sacrifice fly in the seventh.

In their final chance during the ninth inning, Garner tripled and scored on Raile’s RBI single but it was not enough for a comeback.

Looking ahead, VMI will travel to Macon, Georgia this weekend for a three-game series against Mercer.
