The No. 21 Virginia women’s lacrosse team will play against Virginia Tech on April 16 at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, according to an announcement on Apr. 15. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and marks the regular-season finale for both teams.
This matchup is part of the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash, a points-based competition between the two schools that awards a trophy each year based on head-to-head results across all sports. The Cavaliers currently lead the 2025-26 Clash by a score of 11-5 and have already clinched this year’s title following a recent men’s tennis victory.
The winner of Thursday’s game will earn one point in the Commonwealth Clash standings. For fans, live streaming will be available on ACCNX, with live stats also provided.
Virginia has secured its place in next week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, while Virginia Tech will not advance to the field of eight teams competing in Charlotte from April 22-26. The tournament bracket is set to be released Friday morning.
Recent performances have seen sophomore attacker Fiona Allen score a career-high six goals against Boston College last Saturday, marking the most goals by a Cavalier since Katia Carnevale achieved six against Pittsburgh during the previous season. Allen has scored thirteen goals over her last three games as Virginia matched its season-high with seventeen goals against Boston College—also seeing hat tricks from sophomores Payton Sfreddo and Gabby LaVerghetta.
Virginia’s win over Boston College was its second victory this season against a top-10 opponent after defeating then-No. 5 Notre Dame earlier this year. Overall, the Cavaliers have played seven top-10 teams this season while facing what they describe as one of the toughest schedules nationally.
