The Virginia women’s golf team advanced to its fifth consecutive NCAA Championship after a playoff at the Chapel Hill Regional on May 13. The Cavaliers secured one of the final two qualifying spots following a three-team playoff against Michigan State and NC State.
This advancement marks another milestone for the program, highlighting its consistency in reaching national competition. The event took place at UNC Finley Golf Course, where Virginia finished tied for fourth with Michigan State and NC State at 18-over par (858). Jaclyn LaHa made a birdie on her final hole, helping secure the tie that led to the playoff.
Texas won the regional with a score of five-under par (835), while North Carolina (+6) and Oklahoma State (+8) also qualified for nationals. Mira Berglund led Virginia on the last day with a one-under-par round of 69. LaHa posted an even-par total of 210 over three rounds, tying for tenth individually and matching the third-best regional score by a Cavalier.
Other individual performances included Elsie MacCleery finishing two-over (T14), Mira Berglund at eight-over (T28), Remi Bacardi at thirteen-over (T43), and Kennedy Swedick at fourteen-over (T48).
The NCAA Women’s Golf Championships are scheduled for May 22-27 at Omni LaCosta Resort in Carlsbad, California. Other teams advancing from different regionals include USC, Ohio State, Duke, Northwestern, Texas Tech from Ann Arbor; Auburn, Houston, Arkansas, Iowa State, Ole Miss from Louisville; Stanford, Pepperdine, Oregon State, Arizona State, Missouri from Stanford; Wake Forest, Florida State, Florida, Eastern Michigan and Kentucky from Tallahassee; SMU, Texas A&M Baylor LSU Tennessee from Waco.
As Virginia prepares for nationals once again this season it continues its run as one of college golf’s consistent programs.
