Virginia wins all 10 races on first day of Lake Wheeler Invite

The University of Virginia women’s rowing team won all 10 of its races at the Lake Wheeler Invite on April 24. The event featured morning and afternoon sessions, with Virginia facing several ranked opponents.

The team’s performance stands out as a demonstration of depth and consistency across multiple boat classes, reflecting the program’s competitive strength against both conference and non-conference rivals.

In the morning session, Virginia competed against No. 15 Alabama, No. 22 North Carolina, George Washington, High Point, Kansas, and Villanova. The Cavaliers secured victories in the Third Varsity Eight (6:35.950), Second Varsity Four (7:16.200), Varsity Four (7:10.880), Second Varsity Eight (6:24.710), and Varsity Eight (6:16.090) races.

During afternoon racing, UVA added five more wins over No. 14 Miami, No. 25 Oklahoma, Boston College, George Washington, Tulsa and West Virginia in the same events with times including a Varsity Eight win at 6:10.970.

Lineups for each race included coxswains Brie Joe for the Varsity Eight and Ashlyn McGinn for the Second Varsity Eight among others throughout both sessions.

The Lake Wheeler Invite is set to conclude tomorrow starting with the Third Varsity Eight race at 9:20 a.m., with coverage available online.
