Virginia’s Varsity Eight was named Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week for the second time this season, following its performance at the Lake Wheeler Invite on April 24-25 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The recognition highlights the team’s success during the event, where Virginia’s top boat led the No. 8 Cavaliers to win 14 out of 15 races. The Varsity Eight finished first in all three of its races at Lake Wheeler, winning each by a margin of eight seconds or more.

In competition on April 24, Virginia edged No. 15 Alabama with a time of 6:16.090 to Alabama’s 6:24.170 and defeated No. 14 Miami with a time of 6:10.970 compared to Miami’s 6:19.930. On April 25, they won against No.13 Duke by posting a time of 6:09.640 over Duke’s time of 6:20.210.

The crew included coxswain Brie Joe; stroke Paula Lutz; Skylar Morrison; Elsa Hartman; Flynn Green; PJ Balazy; Riley Richardson; Maddie Agudelo and bow Lila Henn.

This is not the first recognition for Virginia’s Varsity Eight this season as they were also named ACC Crew of the Week on March 31.

The Cavaliers are scheduled to return to Lake Wheeler for the ACC Championships taking place May 15-16.
