Virginia, the No. 4 seed in the Allstate Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Lacrosse Championship, will play top-seeded Notre Dame on May 1 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at American Legion Memorial Stadium and will be broadcast on ACC Network.
The matchup comes after Virginia handed Notre Dame its only loss of the season during their March 28 meeting at Klöckner Stadium. In that game, Virginia held Notre Dame scoreless for nearly the final twenty minutes and secured an 11-9 victory with freshman Brendan Millon scoring the winning goal late in the fourth quarter. That win marked Virginia’s first ever victory as an unranked team over a No. 1 ranked opponent.
Notre Dame currently holds a national No. 1 ranking according to the latest USILA coaches poll. North Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia finished tied for second place in regular season conference standings; tiebreaker procedures placed Virginia as the fourth seed.
Since joining the ACC in 2014, Notre Dame has faced Virginia three times previously in tournament play with Virginia holding one win from their meeting in the championship game of 2019—their most recent ACC Tournament title—where they shut out Notre Dame for forty minutes en route to a win at Klöckner Stadium.
In Friday’s other semifinal matchup, Syracuse (No.3 seed) will face North Carolina (No.2 seed) at 8 p.m., also airing on ACC Network. Winners from both semifinals will advance to Sunday’s championship game set for noon.
The bracket for this year’s NCAA Division I Men’s Championships is expected to be announced Sunday evening following completion of conference tournaments.
